After a wild life, saint Augustine was converted under the good influence of his mother, saint Monica. He became bishop of Hippo in North-Africa. He built on the doctrine of Plato and Plotinus: the things on earth are weak reflections of the godly ideas. He said that the soul is naturally christian, and: "restless is my heart, until it finds rest in You".
