The Jews had been brought to Babylon, in exile. Daniel was a servant at the king's
court. He prophesied that the earthly kingdoms would be replaced by the eternal kingdom of
God. Daniel visibly put the king behind God. That's why he was thrown in the lion's den. But the
lions did him no harm.
De Joden waren als ballingen naar Babylon gebracht. Daniël werd dienaar aan het hof
van de koning. Hij voorspelde dat het rijk der aardse koningen plaats zou moeten maken voor het
eeuwige rijk van God. Daniël stelde God zichtbaar boven de koning. Daarom werd hij in de
leeuwenkuil geworpen, maar de leeuwen deden hem niets.
Judaei ad Babylon portati erant in exilium. Daniel servus erat in domui regis. Dixit
regnum terrestre fieri repulsum et regnum aeternum caelorum esse venturum. Rex vidit se
esse positum post Deum. Ideo Daniel inter leones iactus est. Sed ipsi leones non malum
fecerunt.
